NORMAS PARA AUTORES

La Revista de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM (RFM) es una publicación oficial de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM. Su aparición es periódica (bimestral) cuyo objetivo principal es difundir el conocimiento médico útil a los alumnos y académicos de medicina de pre y posgrado, a los investigadores de la propia Facultad de Medicina, a los académicos de las escuelas de medicina mexicanas, y a la comunidad de médica en general; pretende, a través de su contenido, aumentar sus conocimientos del área médica y fortalecer su nivel académico. Por sus altos estándares de calidad, también pretende ser el referente nacional de publicaciones de escuelas de medicina.

Con ese propósito, la RFM considerará contribuciones en las secciones que abajo se indican. En todos los casos, los manuscritos deberán estar escritos en Word, Times New Roman de 12 puntos, doble espacio, márgenes de 2.5 cm, sin sangrías ni justificación derecha. Todos los manuscritos serán revisados, y en su caso aprobados, por expertos (pares).

1. Editorial
Esta sección está dedicada al análisis y reflexión sobre tópicos médicos de interés general.

2. Artículos de revisión
En su sección principal, la RFM publica artículos de revisión sobre temas médicos de actualidad y relevantes para el estudiante de licenciatura y para el médico general; serán escritos por una autoridad en el área motivo de la revisión. Estos artículos serán por invitación del Director de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM.
La extensión de los manuscritos, las secciones y subtítulos serán de acuerdo con el criterio de cada autor. Los autores deberán seguir las siguientes instrucciones:

i. Página frontal. La primera página deberá contener, en el orden indicado:

1) Título del artículo, que debe reflejar fielmente el contenido.
2) Nombre completo de cada autor (autores), empezando por apellidos y, al final, un número en superíndice.
3) Nombre de la institución, departamento o laboratorio, precedido del número en superíndice que corresponde a cada autor
5) Título corto.
4) Autor de correspondencia, indicando nombre completo, dirección, número telefónico, número de fax, correo electrónico. Incluir el ORCID de los autores.
5) Título corto
6) Cinco palabras clave
7) Número total de páginas, de figuras y de cuadros

 

ii. Resumen en español. Deberá estar ubicado en la segunda página. Resumen estructurado en español de 400 palabras.

iii. Resumen en ingles. Deberá estar ubicado en la tercera página. Resumen estructurado en inglés de 400 palabras. Se recomienda que este resumen sea revisado por un experto en el idioma indicado.

iv. Cuadro de contenido. Los artículos de revisión deberán incluir, en la página cuatro, un cuadro de contenido con dos niveles de encabezados, lo cual permitirá tener una idea clara sobre la estructura de la revisión.

v. Cuerpo del manuscrito. El cual deberá iniciarse en la página cinco.

vi. Cuadros. Los cuadros deberán colocarse al final del texto, después de las referencias. Deberán entregarse en los archivos originales del programa donde fueron elaborados; usar números arábigos en el orden citado dentro del texto con título en la parte superior. Las notas de pie deben explicar la información y el significado de las abreviaturas.

vii. Figuras. Deberán entregarse los archivos originales independientes de la versión del texto Deberán tener las siguientes características: de preferencia en color, en formato .jpg, con un tamaño mínimo de 5 cm de ancho y un máximo de 21 cm de ancho, con 300 dpi de resolución. Las leyendas de las figuras deberán estar en hojas separadas al final del texto, después de la ubicación de los cuadros.

viii. Conclusiones. Al final, el manuscrito deberá describir brevemente las conclusiones más significativas de la revisión.

ix. Agradecimientos. Si es pertinente, anotar los nombres de personas o instituciones que brindaron apoyo para la elaboración del manuscrito

x. Bibliografía. La bibliografía deberá ser suficiente y adecuada Sólo incluir referencias pertinentes al tema que sustenten las aseveraciones más importantes del manuscrito.

xi. Las referencias de artículos publicados en revistas, capítulos de libros y libros completos se presentarán de según el estilo Vancouver (ver los ejemplos a continuación y para instrucciones más detalladas consultar: www.icmje.org ). Se indicarán con números arábigos en forma consecutiva y en orden en que aparecen por primera vez en el texto.

a. Revistas periódicas.

3. Casos anatomo-clínicos, de imagenología y de la CONAMED
Los manuscritos estarán enfocados a casos anatomo-clínicos de patologías de actualidad que sean útiles en la formación de los estudiantes de medicina. Deberán contener un resumen clínico, datos de laboratorio y gabinete, seguidos por una discusión y análisis del caso. El reporte del caso deberá iniciar con un resumen, incluir página frontal apropiada y seguir las indicaciones descritas en artículos de revisión. Análisis críticos de casos clínicos de la CONAMED.

4. Correlaciones históricas
Se revisarán casos históricos y se correlacionarán con casos básico-clínicos de actualidad. Incluir página frontal apropiada y seguir las indicaciones en artículos de revisión

5. Novedades en Medicina
Resumen de novedades diagnósticas o terapéuticas publicadas en revistas de gran impacto. No incluyen resumen y deberán incluir página frontal apropiada y seguir las indicaciones descritas en artículos de revisión

6. Políticas en salud
Los manuscritos discutirán temas de actualidad, se incluirán guías de práctica clínica. Su enfoque estará dirigido al médico general, y deberá incluir página frontal apropiada y seguir las indicaciones descritas en artículos de revisión

7. Arte y medicina
Relatos de entrevistas o de exposiciones con relevancia médica. Los artículos serán breves e ilustrativos

8. Profesionalismo y ética
Artículos que tocarán temas de ética y bioética, así como los casos analizados y dictaminados por CONAMED

9. Educación médica
Los artículos serán trabajos de revisión sobre diferentes aspectos de la educación médica. Estos artículos serán por invitación del responsable de la sección, previa aprobación del Editor de la Revista. Los autores decidirán la estructura del manuscrito según el tema a tratar, teniendo como premisa que la organización del mismo debe promover la comprensión secuencial del tema.

10. Regreso por las sendas ya visitadas.
En esta sección se incluirán revisión de temas que se vieron durante la licenciatura o la residencia y que se han actualizado con nueva información.

11. Cartas al editor
En esta sección se incluyen comentarios sobre los artículos previamente publicados en la RFM y opiniones sobre el contenido de la revista.

 

Notas adicionales

i. Conflicto de intereses. Todos los autores deben firmar una carta de NO conflicto de intereses y declarar que los trabajos que aquí presenten no han sido previamente publicados ni enviados a otras revistas.
ii. Transferencia de derechos de autor. Carta firmada por todos los autores transfiriendo los derechos de autor a la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM.
iii. Consentimiento Informado. Carta de consentimiento informado si desean resultados de trabajos con seres humanos firmada por los pacientes. Sus datos personales no deben aparecer en el texto original por consideración ética y legal de anonimato.
iv. El material que sea aceptado para publicación será propiedad de la Revista, por lo que la reproducción parcial o total del material debe ser autorizado por la Revista de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
The Journal of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM (RFM) is an official publication of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM. This is a periodical (bimonthly) publication, and its main purpose is to disseminate useful medical knowledge to undergraduate and graduate medical students, teachers and researchers from the Faculty of Medicine itself, academics in Mexican medical schools and the medical community in general. It aims, through its content to increase their medical knowledge and strengthen their academic level. Due to its high-quality standards it pretends to be the national benchmark of medical school publications.
Therefore, the RFM will consider contributions in the sections listed below. In each case, the manuscripts must be written in Word, Times New Roman 12-point, double space, margins 2.5 cm, no indentation or right justification. All manuscripts will be reviewed and approved by experts (peers).

1. Editorial
This section is dedicated to the analysis and reflection of medical topics of general interest.

2. Review articles
In the main section, the RFM publishes review articles on current subjects relevant to students and to practitioners in general. An authority on the subject will write these articles. The review articles will be written at the invitation of the Director of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM.
The extension of the manuscripts, sections and subtitles will be in accordance with the criteria of each author. Authors should follow these instructions:

i. Front page. The first page shall contain the following in the indicated order:

1) Title of the article (that must faithfully reflect the content).
2) Full name of each author (authors), starting with surnames and, at the end, a number in superscript.
3) Name of the institution, department, or laboratory, preceded by subscript number corresponding to each author. Authors’ ORCID should be included.
4) A corresponding author, indicating full name, address, telephone number, fax number and email.
5) Short title.
6) Five key words
7) Number of pages, figures, and tables.


ii. Abstract in Spanish.  It must be located on the second page. Structured abstract in Spanish with 40 words

iii. Abstract in English. It must be located on the third page. It is recommended that an expert in the language specified review this summary. Structured abstract in English with 400 words.

iv. Table of contents. Review articles should include, at page four, a table of contents with two levels of headings, which should give a clear idea about the structure of the review.

v. Body of the manuscript. That must start on page five.

vi. Tables. Tables should be placed at the end of the text, after the references. They must be delivered in the original file of the program with which they were produced; use Arabic numerals in the order cited in the text with the top title. Footnotes should explain the information and the significance of the abbreviations.

vii. Figures. The original files of the text version must be delivered separately and must have the following characteristics: preferably in color, in .jpg format with a minimum size of 5 cm wide and up to 21 cm wide, with 300 dpi resolution. The legends of the figures should be on separate pages, at the end of the text, and after the tables.

viii. Conclusions. At the end, the manuscript should briefly describe the most significant conclusions of the review.

ix. Acknowledgements. If applicable, write down the names of people or institutions that provided support for the preparation of the manuscript

x. Bibliography. The bibliography must be sufficient and appropriate. Only include references relevant to the subject that sustain the most important statements of the manuscript.

xi. The references to journal articles, book chapters and complete books should be presented in accordance with the Vancouver style (see the examples below for detailed instructions and consult: www.icmje.org). They should be indicated in Arabic numerals consecutively and in order of appearance in the text.

3. Clinical, anatomy, medical imaging cases and CONAMED’s

The manuscripts must focus on recent developments of anatomical and clinical pathology useful in the training of medical students. They should contain a clinical summary, laboratory, and cabinet data, followed by a discussion and analysis of the case. The case report should begin with a summary, include an appropriate front page, and follow the instructions described in the review articles. Critical analysis of CONAMED clinical cases.

4. Historical correlations
Historical cases must be reviewed and correlated with recent basic-clinical cases. Include an appropriate front page and follow the directions in the review articles

5. Newest Developments in Medicine
A summary of diagnostic or therapeutic news published in journals of high impact. They shall not include summary and must include an appropriate front page and to follow the instructions described in the review articles

6. Health Policy
These manuscripts discuss current affairs and clinical practice guidelines. Its focuses on the general practitioner and must include an appropriate front page and to follow the instructions described in the review articles.

7. Art and Medicine
Interviews or presentations with medical relevance. Items must be brief and illustrative

8. Professionalism and Ethics
Articles that address issues related to ethics and bioethics, as well as analyzed and audited cases by CONAMED.

9. Medical Education
The articles are review papers regarding different aspects of medical education. These items must be written at the invitation of the head of the section, with the approval of the Editor of the Journal. The authors agree on the structure of the manuscript according to the topic, with the premise that the organization itself must promote an understanding of the subject.

10. Returning to the already visited paths.
Manuscripts for this section intend to review topics that correlated basic and clinical knowledge, which were taught during the medical training, and because of the time lapsed, have been forgotten.

11. Letters to the Editor
This section comments on articles previously published in the RFM and includes opinions about the content of the magazine.

 

Additional Notes
i. Conflict of interests. All the authors must sign a letter of no conflict of interest and declare that the work presented has not been previously published or submitted to other journals.
ii. Copyright transfer. A letter by all authors must be signed to transfer copyright to the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM.
iii. Informed consent. A signed and written informed consent by the patients is necessary if results involve work with humans. Their personal data should not appear in the original text because of the ethical and legal considerations of anonymity.
iv. The accepted material for publication will be property of the Journal; therefore, the total or partial reproduction of the material must be authorized by the Journal of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM.
